There are still important ways for you to be involved! Currently, we are trying to finish the second floor of the Chauffard Community Center. This floor will offer eight classrooms and a library/future media center for the students. Click here if you are interested in supporting the building fund or contact us if you have any fundraising ideas/opportunities. Together, we can build a future for the children and community of Chauffard.

Luck Mesidor is nine years-old and attends Chauffard School. He lives an hour and a half away from school with his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Luck helps his family around the house by washing clothes and doing the dishes in addition to his daily trip to the water source to get water for the family. His parents farm on the mountain and sell food in the local market. The best part of his day is when he is at school and playing with his friends. He enjoys learning math and would like to be a teacher when he grows up.

Peterson Orrissant is a fourteen year-old student at Chauffard School. He lives with his parents and four sisters. Peterson helps his family by walking one hour round-trip to carry water from the water source to his family. At times his mother spends a week at a time in Port-au-Prince selling the produce the family grows on the farm. He enjoys playing soccer with his friends and like to learn math in school. Peterson would like to opportunity to travel when he becomes an adult.

Wilbert Mesidor is eleven years-old and attends Chauffard School. His parents are separated and he lives with his dad, while his three brothers live with his mother in Petionville. In the city she works by selling various items in the flea market. Wilbert helps around the house by feeding the pigs, as his father farms along the mountainside. He loves to play soccer with his friends and he enjoys learning about history in school. When Wilbert grows up, he would like to be a construction worker.

Renaud Antoine is five years-old and attends school in the mountains of Chauffard. He lives with his mother and father along with his sister and two brothers. In order to help his family around the house, Renaud feeds the pigs everyday. His father is a farmer, as well as the security guard for the church. Renaud enjoys playing with toy cars and going to school. His favorite animal is a goat and his favorite colors are red and blue. When he grows up, he would like to be a driver.

Angeline Gerly is a seven year-old student at Chauffard school. She lives her three brothers an four sisters. She helps her mother with cooking fries and potatoes, as her parents farm the land in this mountainous region. After they have harvested their crops, her mothers goes into the city to sell it in the market place. She enjoys playing with her doll and playing hide-and-seek wit her friends. When she grows up, Angeline would like the opportunity to travel to places like the Bahamas and other islands surrounding Haiti.

Nadege Fab is a thirteen year-old student at Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father and five brothers. Her parents are farmers in this agricultural community, and they sell their produce in the city market. While her father farms, Nadege helps around the house by sweeping, washing the dishes, and help her mother sell food in the local market. Her favorite color is yellow, her favorite animal is a cow and she loves to jump rope with her friends. Nadege enjoys school because and she would like to be a nurse when she is older.

Jean Baptiste Yslene is an eight year-old student at Chauffard School. She lives with her five brothers and sisters on a farm in the mountains. She helps around the house by carrying water from the water source, washing dishes, and sweeping. Her parents farm and sell their produce in the city can local markets. Her favorite color is yellow and her favorite animal is a pic. Jean Baptiste enjoys going to school and learning how to write, and she likes to play with dolls in her free-time.

Lovely Pierre is ten years-old and attends the Chauffard School. She lives with her aunt and helps around they house by mopping, washing dishes and carrying water on her head from the water source. Her aunt farms the land around their house and sells the produce in the market. Lovely likes horses, the color red, and she enjoys cooking when they have enough money to buy food. She has enjoyed learning how to read while she has been at Chauffard School, and aspires to become a teacher when she grows up.

Fabre Ginette is a twelve year-old student at Chauffard School. She lives with her grandmother and two brothers, while her parents work in the city to support the family. She sees her parents about once a month. Her father carries heavy loads on his back, and her mother sells various items in the flea market in Carrefour. Her three other brothers live int he city with her parents as well. Fabre washes dishes, cleans the house, and cooks anything that is available, in order to help her grandmother around the house. She has enjoyed learning math and would like to be a nurse.

Antoine Oreste is twelve years-old and attends Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father, three brothers, and three sisters. Antoine helps around the house by washing dishes, sweeping the floor, and washing clothes. Her father farms the land and her mother sells the food in the city market. When she is not busy helping her family, Antoine enjoys jumping rope and playing hand-clap games with her friends. She likes to study and read in school, and she would like to become a teacher when she is older.

Lyndia Saint-Hibert is ten years-old and attends Chauffard School. She lives with her father, mother, a younger sister and two younger brothers. Her parents farm the land along the mountainside, and her mother sells the produce in the local market. Lyndia helps her family around the house by washing dishes, making the beds, and sweeping the floor. She loves to cook for her family when there is enough food. They do not own any toys, but Lyndia loves playing with her younger sister. Her favorite animal is a horse and she likes to read and draw in school.

Venestil Elourdes is a twelve year-old student at Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father, three brothers, and six sisters. Her parents are farmers and they sell their produce in Port-au-Prince at the market. She helps her family by walking an hour round-trip from the water source carrying water for their various needs. She also cleans hte house whenever it is necessary. Venestil like to study geography in school and would like to be a fashion designer when she grows up.

Paul Johanie is fourteen years-old and attends Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father, three sisters, and two brothers. Her parents are farmers and they produce yams, sweet potatoes, and cabbage to sell in the local market. To help her family Paul sweeps the floor, washes the dishes, and carries water from the nearby water source. She enjoys jumping rope with her friends and going to school. Her favorite subject in school is math and she would like to make clothes when she is older.

Saint Felix Dieuvala is a thirteen year-old student at Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father and seven brothers. Her father farms the land around their house and her mother sells the produce in city market. Saint Felix helps her family by washing clothes, helping her father on the farm, and helping her mother sell the food. She loves the opportunity to go to school and works hard to study and get good grades. When she is older, she would like to become a nurse.

Berline Anvinzil is six years-old and attends Chauffard School. Her father left her family, so Berline and her four brothers and three sisters live with her grandparents while her mother is selling in the city markets. She helps her family by washing dishes. Berline does not know what she wants to be when she grows up, but she is enjoying the opportunity to go to school. She does not own any toys, but she likes to play with her siblings.

Gary Inezard is a thirteen-year-old student at Chauffard School. His father passed away three years ago leaving Gary, three daughters, and a wife behind. Gary now lives with his mother and one sister, while two of his sisters live with their uncle and go to school in Port-au-Prince. In order to help his mother around the house, Gary frequently goes to the water source to provide water for the day. Gary enjoys soccer and expressing himself through artistic means. He creates carvings out of limestone to sell and bring money into the household. He is currently in 5th grade and his favorite subject in school is French. Gary wants to be an engineer when he grows up.

Gena Nicholas is a fifteen-year-old student at the Chauffard School. She lives with her mother, father, four brothers and sister, thirty minutes away from the school. In order to help her family around the house, Gena cleans the dishes and washes the family’s clothes. Her parents are farmers and they sell their produce in Port-au-Prince. She enjoys playing with her friends in school and attending church. Her favorite subject in school is math and she would like to be a nurse when she grows up.

Denise and Oxean Antione are twelve year-old twins in their first year of school in Chauffard. They live with their mother, father, grandmother, three little brothers, and two cousins. They help their family by making the beds and washing the dishes. Their father works very hard in the fields and sells the produce in the market, while their mother takes care of the seven children and sells food from a shack in front of their house. Denise and Oxean have never been to school before this year, and they are so grateful to finally have to opportunity to learn.

Delivrance Mesidor is a twelve year-old student at Chauffard School. Her mom passed away when she was four, so she lives with her father, sister and four brothers now. She helps her father around the house by cleaning and washing the dishes. Her favorite thing to do is cook for her family. Her father is not always home because he farms, then sells the food in Port-au-Prince. She likes to learn mathematics in school. When asked what she wanted to be when she grows up, Delivrance answered by saying she wanted to be a person with good character and possibly a nun.

Begina Marcelus is a five year-old student at Chauffard School. She has a brother and a sister, and they all live with their grandmother, aunt and uncle. To help around the house, Begina washes the dishes whenever she can. Her family farms on the mountain and sells their produce in the city markets. She loves to jump rope and go to school with her friends. Her favorite color is red and her favorite animal is a goat.

Julien Nouvel is a fifteen-year-old student at the Chauffard School. He lives with his dad, two brothers, and three sisters. This family does not own land, so they buy products to resell in the city. He helps his family by working and obtaining food. He enjoys playing soccer when he can take a break from work. Julien’s favorite subject is math and he would like to be a doctor or engineer when he grows up.

Watson Dorcely is seven years-old and attends Chaufard School in the mountians outside of Port-au-Prince. He lives with his mother, father and brother. He helps his family by walking one hour round-trip to get the water from the water source that they will need for the day. His father farms, while his mother sells food in the flea market in Carrefour. He enjoys playing soccer with his friends and drawing pictures when he can find paper. Watson would like to be a policeman when he grows up.

Angeline helps her family around the house by sweeping and cleaning. Her parents farm along the mountainside and sell their food in the local market as well as in the city markets. She likes little rocks, the color pink, and her favorite animals are cows and goats. She has enjoyed learning to write in school this year.

Blanette Favelus is a seven years-old student at Chauffard School. She lives in a small house with her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Some of her chores around the house include washing clothes, washing the dishes and helping her mother with cooking for the whole family. Her parents work the fields along the mountainside. Blanette loves to dance, play with friends and jump rope when she is not helping her mother. She enjoys learning to read and write at school and would like to be a teacher when she grows up.

Emile Ernso is a nine year old boy who attends Chauffard School. He lives with his mom and dad, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Two of his brothers are deceased. The chores he does to help his family are: feeding the animals, cutting the grass and Bahhana leaf, and carrying water up from the water source. His favorite thing to do is build cars with a cola bottle. His dad is a farmer and his mother sells their produce at the market. When asked about his future, he lit up and said he wants to finish school and then decide what he wants to do.

David Excellent is a 14-year old male who lives with his mom. He has 2 brothers (ages 30 and 26) and 3 sisters (ages 18, 17, and 16) who live in Port au Prince. They must live in Port au Prince to be educated past the fifth grade because no schools in the area have middle or high school education. His father is deceased. He attends Chauffard School and enjoys soccer and helping his mom with their farm. His mom sells their produce in Clemenso. When he is older, he would like to be a project manager in construction.

The trip takes one hour each way. His parents farm from 5 AM to 7 PM and then they sell their produce in Clemenso. Julio attends Chauffard School and his favorite things to do are riding their horse and taking care of their goat and cow. He wants to be a doctor someday so he can help everybody.

She wants to be a professional and “do something in life,” such as become a teacher. She walks 20 minutes to get to school.

Philomene Octa is an 18 year old female who lives with her mom, 1 sister aged 8 and 3 brothers, ages 20, 14, and 12. Her father has died. Her mother grows vegetables in Chauffard and sells them at the market. She helps her mother farm and sell. Philomene has been at Chauffard School for 2 years and was never in school before then. The teachers say she catches on quickly and is eager to learn.
She would like to someday be a nurse and wishes to one day own a motorcycle to get up and down the mountain.

Donald Emile is a ten year old boy who attends Chauffard School. He lives with his dad, 3 brothers (ages 11, 8, and 6) and sisters (4 and 5). His mother died and he says he has fond memories of her but does not know how she died.
